
On Monday, 10 February 2025, Alfred Duma Local Municipality Deputy Mayor, Cllr S. Simelane, Chief Whip, Cllr S. Sithole and Cllr X Kubheka visited the Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare Train at Ladysmith Railway Station on the N11. The municipality leadership was warmly welcomed by Dr. Thabiso Malamela and Mr. Loyiso Qula from Transnet, who took them on a tour of the facility and provided an overview of the services available.

The train offers five key healthcare services to patients: eye care, dental care, psychological services, general health screenings, and counseling clinics.
The Al-Imdaad Foundation, a key stakeholder in this initiative, also participated in the visit.




The foundation donated a wheelchair, hygiene packs, and walking sticks to identified beneficiaries. A representative from Al-Imdaad commended Transnet for its initiative in bringing healthcare services directly to communities in need.
Deputy Mayor Cllr S. Simelane expressed appreciation for Al-Imdaad’s ongoing support to the community and extended gratitude to the Transnet team for providing affordable healthcare services.

Following the briefing, Deputy Mayor Cllr S. Simelane and Chief Whip Cllr S. Sithole toured the various clinics on the train, engaging with patients and staff.

The official handover of the wheelchair, hygiene packs, and walking sticks was conducted by the Deputy Mayor, Chief Whip, and Al-Imdaad representatives.
Patients expressed their excitement and appreciation for the high-quality care provided by the friendly and professional staff.
