The Alfred Duma Local Municipality delegation led by His Worship the Mayor Cllr Zama Sibisi on Thursday 17 August 2023 visited Defy at the iThala Industrial estate in Ezakheni.
Accompanied by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sizwe Simelane, Speaker, Cllr Bhekinkosi Sithole, Cllr Sithole, Cllr Ngubane as well as Cllr Warassally, the mayoral visit was a courtesy one in aid of strengthening stakeholder relations with investors and industry leaders such as Defy.
The municipal delegation was welcomed by Defy Director Mr Ian Delport who speaking at the meeting, relayed the history of the company and how long the factory has been functional within the municipality.
The factory, according to the HR Manager Mr Khomo, has been creating job opportunities for the people and especially the youth and also worked towards various skills developed initiatives a number of skills that have equipped the factory to perform even better.
With meetings of this kind the industries or companies are awarded to opportunity to speak to the municipal representatives on various challenges, successes and possible developments that will help both to grow in strength. One of the major challenges that Defy was encountering was road safety on the road leading to the factory there had been various incidents especially with livestock roaming on the roads. Apart from challenges such as loadshedding, the company representatives also thanked the municipality for the visit.
