On Tuesday, 16 September 2025, His Worship, the Mayor of Alfred Duma Local Municipality, Cllr Zama Sibisi, conducted an inspection at the landfill site located in Ward 20, Acaciaville. The mayor was accompanied by Ward Councillor Mr A Warrasaly (Ward 20), Councillor A Rajkoomar (Ward 13), Miss Nguse (Executive Director of Community and Social Services), and other councillors.

The inspection served as a powerful demonstration of the Mayor’s unwavering commitment to both environmental management and effective service delivery within the municipality.

During the visit, the Mayor placed a significant emphasis on the safety and operational considerations pertinent to waste pickers operating at the landfill site. Mayor Sibisi specifically advised them against smoking on the premises to mitigate the risk of potential fires. Furthermore, the Mayor strongly encouraged waste pickers to obtain valid working papers and offered the municipality’s assistance in facilitating this process.

The Mayor also appealed to all landfill workers to foster a spirit of cooperation and collective responsibility in order to maintain a consistently clean and environmentally sound working environment.

This inspection underscores the Alfred Duma Local Municipality’s ongoing dedication to upholding high standards of environmental management and ensuring the efficient delivery of essential services to its residents.
