On Tuesday, 29 July 2025, the Mayor of Alfred Duma Local Municipality, Cllr ZJ Sibisi, visited the Acaciaville community in Ward 20, under the leadership of Cllr A Warrassally, and the Mhlwaneni community in Ward 19, under the leadership of Cllr S Mswane. The purpose of the visits was to officially introduce the contractors appointed for the highly anticipated Malva and Mhlwaneni road construction projects. The launch marks a significant milestone in the municipality’s efforts to enhance local infrastructure and create employment opportunities.
Community engagements were held at the Acaciaville Community Hall and the Driefontein Thusong Centre, drawing enthusiastic participation from residents excited about the upcoming developments. Mayor Sibisi emphasized the critical role these infrastructure upgrades will play in improving residents’ daily lives by providing better access to essential services and boosting local economic activity. The sessions also allowed residents to engage directly with municipal leadership, ask questions, and raise any concerns related to the construction processes.

Malva Road – Ward 20
The municipality introduced Sihlahlasiyshluma Construction (Pty) Ltd as the appointed contractor for the Malva Road project. With an allocated budget of R6 million, the project is expected to take six months to complete and will create approximately 14 job opportunities for local residents.

Mhlwaneni Road – Ward 19
Muntuza Engineering was announced as the contractor for the Mhlwaneni Road upgrade. Similarly budgeted at R6 million and scheduled for completion within six months, this project aims to significantly improve road quality and accessibility in the area. It is anticipated to generate 15 local employment opportunities.
The launch events were attended by key municipal officials, including Ward Councillors for Wards 19 and 20, and their respective Ward Committees. Their presence reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and stakeholder involvement throughout the project lifecycle. These projects are funded by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).

In closing, Mayor Sibisi called on all community members to fully cooperate during the construction phases. Residents were encouraged to channel any concerns or issues through their respective Ward Councillors or the Office of the Mayor. The municipality underscored the importance of ongoing communication and community support to ensure the smooth and successful delivery of both projects—on time and to the highest standards.
