On Thursday, 08 May 2025, the leadership of Alfred Duma Local Municipality conducted visits across various wards to officially introduce contractors tasked with upgrading the municipality’s road infrastructure through rehabilitation projects.
His Worship, the Mayor of Alfred Duma Local Municipality, Cllr ZJ Sibisi, commenced the program at uMnambithi Town Hall, where residents of Ward 22, under the guidance of Cllr SS Zwane, gathered to witness the introduction of the appointed contractor, Messrs W BLACKMINE (PTY) LTD. This company has been awarded the contract to rehabilitate the Newcastle Road, covering a distance of 0.65km, with a budget of R6.5 million. The project, set for completion within four months, will also generate 14 job opportunities for local residents.
The event was graced by the Speaker, Cllr BP Sithole, alongside Cllrs S Zwane, S Msimango, S Mswane, M Sithole, and L Kubheka, as well as municipal officials and community members. In his address, Mayor Sibisi commended the community for their continued support of their Ward Councillor.
Simultaneously, the Deputy Mayor, Cllr S Simelane, accompanied by Cllr Mbhense, visited Hydepark (corner of Faircliff & Hyde Road) in Ward 22, where he introduced Messrs Dambuza Logistics Services. This contractor has been awarded the responsibility of rehabilitating Shepstone Road, a 1.3km stretch valued at R7.9 million, expected to be completed within four months and creating 14 employment opportunities for local residents.
Additionally, the Deputy Mayor proceeded to Ezakheni, where he introduced Black Transport and Logistics as the contractor tasked with rehabilitating a critical road connecting Ward 3 (under Cllr Dlamini) and Ward 5 (under Cllr Mngadi). With a budget of R5,448,182.09, this project will provide employment for 10 residents and is scheduled to commence on Monday, 13 May 2025, with the contractor reporting on-site.
The municipality’s leadership emphasized that these projects, funded by COGTA and allocated by National COGTA Minister, Hon. VF Hlabisa, are part of a broader initiative to enhance service delivery. Residents were encouraged to take pride in and protect the new infrastructure. Any concerns regarding these projects should be promptly communicated through Ward Committees and Councillors.
