
On Monday, 04 August 2025, the Alfred Duma Local Municipality officially introduced the contractor for the installation of four high mast lights in Ward 32 at the Vaalkop Community Hall (kwaMaqanda). The event, led by Mayor Cllr ZJ Sibisi, marked a significant step towards enhancing visibility and curbing crime in the area.
Mayor Cllr ZJ Sibisi presided over the gathering, which included councillors, municipal officials, dedicated ward committee members, and engaged community members. The purpose of the event was to formally introduce Engineering Pty Ltd as the contractor entrusted with this crucial infrastructure project at a value of R2.5 million expected to be completed in 4 months with 9 employment opportunities for community members.




The Deputy Mayor, Cllr S Simelane, also introduced Nothani Engineering for similar high mast light projects in Ward 28 (KwaMteyi) and Ohwebedeni in ward 30. In both wards, the project is at the value of R2.5 million, expected to be completed within 3 months, and 8 community members will benefit in the employment opportunities these projects come with.

The installation of these high mast lights significantly enhances visibility and contributes to a safer environment for the residents of ward 32, 28, 30, and surrounding areas. By improving night-time, the municipality seeks to deter criminal activities and foster a greater sense of security within the community. Mayor Sibisi emphasized the importance of community cooperation throughout the project’s duration, urging residents to participate actively in ensuring its success and sustainability.
