On Monday, 11 August 2025, the Alfred Duma Local Municipality took a significant step towards improving community safety and infrastructure by officially introducing the contractor for the installation of four high mast lights in Ward 29. The event, held at Egoqweni Community Hall, was presided over by Deputy Mayor Cllr S Simelane accompanied by ward, Cllr B Madondo, Cllr Dlamini, Cllr Ntini, Cllr Mbhense, Cllr Zikalala, Cllr Sithole, Cllr Zwane, Cllr Qwabe (UDM), Induna Xaba, municipal officials, and enthusiastic community members.

The purpose of the gathering was to formally introduce BBTN Technologies Pty (Ltd) as the contractor responsible for this vital infrastructure project. With a project value of R1.1 million, the installation is scheduled for completion within 30 days and is set to create employment opportunities for eight local residents, further contributing to the socio-economic development of the area.

The installation of high mast lights is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing night-time visibility in Egoqweni and surrounding communities. Improved lighting is expected to deter criminal activities, reduce accidents, and foster a greater sense of security among residents. This project underscores the municipality’s commitment to creating safer, more vibrant communities through targeted infrastructure investments.

Community members expressed gratitude for the project, highlighting the positive impact it will have on daily life and overall safety. The Alfred Duma Local Municipality reaffirmed its dedication to ongoing development and collaboration with local stakeholders to ensure the well-being and progress of all residents.
