On Friday, 25 July 2025, the Deputy Mayor of Alfred Duma Local Municipality, Cllr S. Simelane, visited the Ward 23 community at KwaVimbukhalo Sports Ground, under the leadership of Ward Councillor TP Dlamini. The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce the contractor appointed to construct Phase 2 of the Matiwane Asphalt Road (500m) to the local community.
This initiative aims to address critical community needs, particularly those impacting school children and the accessibility of emergency services. Accompanying the Deputy Mayor were Cllr N. Mbhense, municipal officials, ward committee members, and community members.
Cllr Dlamini welcomed all attendees, commended the community for honouring the invitation, and outlined other municipal service delivery initiatives in the ward. These include the donation of school shoes to various schools, the donation of three houses, the construction of the Matiwane Asphalt Road (Phase 2), and the construction of a gravel road.
In his address, the Deputy Mayor applauded the community for electing a dedicated Ward Councillor who prioritises the interests of the people. He further urged residents to take pride in the new infrastructure and to protect it for the benefit of future generations.
The construction of Matiwane Asphalt Road Phase 2 is funded through the 2025/2026 IDP Budget. The municipality appeals to community members to report any concerns or dissatisfaction regarding the project through the Ward Councillor. In the Councillor’s absence, residents are encouraged to contact the Office of the Mayor. The Deputy Mayor also emphasised the importance of not interfering with the project, as this could cause unnecessary delays in service delivery. This initiative forms part of the Municipality’s broader strategy to accelerate service delivery.
Multi Solution Trading was officially introduced as the appointed contractor to undertake the construction. The project is valued at R6 million and is expected to be completed within three months. Additionally, it will create 10 job opportunities for local community members.
