On Tuesday, 14 October 2025, the Mayor of Alfred Duma Local Municipality, Cllr ZJ Sibisi, visited Ward 36 community next to uMbango Second School, under the leadership of  Cllr S Simelane.  The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce the contractor appointed to construct  kwaHlathi Asphalt Road to the local community.

This initiative aims to address critical community needs and accessibility of emergency services through 2025/26 financial year budget. Accompanying the Mayor were Cllr N. Mbhense, Cllr TP Dlamini municipal officials, ward committee members, Induna Masondo, Induna Nene, Induna Madonsela and community members.

Cllr S Simelane welcomed all attendees and commended the community for honouring the invitation, then formally introduced the Mayor. Cllr ZJ Sibisi who in his address applauded the community for electing a dedicated Ward Councillor that prioritizes the interests of the people. Further to that, the mayor urged residents to take pride in the new infrastructure and to protect it for the benefit of future generations.

The municipality appeals to community members to report any concerns or dissatisfaction regarding the project through the Ward Councillor. In the Councillor’s absence, residents are encouraged to contact the Office of the Mayor.

The Mayor Sibisi emphasized the importance of not interfering with the project, as this could cause unnecessary delays in service delivery. This initiative forms part of the Municipality’s broader strategy to accelerate service delivery.

Recognizing the severity of the situation of water scarcity in the municipality, the Mayor is appealing to the National Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Honourable VF Hlabisa, for immediate assistance. This plea focuses on securing additional water tankers to provide relief to residents facing severe water shortages.

Messrs Cnice Logistics and Plant Hire (Pty) Ltd was officially introduced as the appointed contractor to undertake the construction. The project is valued at R8m and is expected to be completed within 6 months. Additionally, it will create 12 job opportunities for local community members.
