Officials from the Alfred Duma Local Municipality, working together with uThukela District Municipality Health Inspectors, the Department of Employment and Labour, and the Ladysmith SAPS, conducted business licence compliance inspections on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
The comprehensive inspections were carried out at tuck shops to ensure compliance with health, safety and cleanliness standards. The inspections were mainly carried out in Tsakane and Mbulwane, Ward 09, within the Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
The purpose of these inspections was to promote compliance with business licensing requirements, improve health and safety standards and protect their regular customers from purchasing improper goods. Ensuring that businesses operate within the legal framework helps maintain public safety and community well-being.
During the inspections, officials checked for compliance with cleanliness requirements, safety regulations and licensing statuses. Notices were issued to businesses that failed to meet the required standards. One tuck shop was closed due to poor hygiene and cleanliness conditions, while another was found selling expired drinks and snacks, posing health risks to consumers.
