On Thursday, 27 February 2025, His Worship, the Mayor of Alfred Duma Local Municipality, Cllr. Z.J. Sibisi, accompanied by the Executive Director of Community and Social Services, Ms. N. Nguse, conducted a clean-up awareness campaign at uMnambithi CBD. The campaign was carried out by Cleaning and Solid Waste officers, along with CWP workers, with the aim of promoting a safe and clean environment for our community.

As our municipality was placed third in the 2023/2024 Cleanest Municipality Competition in the “Urban” category, initiatives like these set a positive example for our citizens. The Mayor demonstrated leadership by actively participating in last year’s cleaning campaign in uMnambithi Town.

Following this achievement, His Worship, the Mayor, stated, “As a municipality, we are aiming for the first position.” He also reminded hawkers that, since they were issued trading permits last year and rely on their businesses to support their families, they are not permitted to sell illegal beverages, as doing so could result in their permits being revoked.

To support cleanliness efforts, the municipality has provided a 10m³ bulk refuse container, with garbage being collected daily by municipal CWP workers.
