The Alfred Duma Local Municipality has noted with concern, a video currently circulating on social media that portrays the municipality as uncaring and as mistreating citizens. The municipality became aware of this matter through social media and regards it with the utmost seriousness. Immediate steps are being taken to address the issue in full compliance with the South African Housing Act and without infringing on any individual’s constitutional rights.
The video makes serious allegations against a municipal councillor and certain officials, suggesting the unlawful eviction of senior citizens from low-cost houses (RDP Houses) and the improper allocation of these houses to individuals in close proximity to the councillor and some officials.
In response, the municipality will institute an urgent investigation through the appropriate municipal processes and in accordance with all applicable legislation. Should any councillor or official be found to have acted unlawfully or unethically, decisive action will be taken. Both councillors and officials are bound by a strict code of conduct, and any breach will not be tolerated.
We call upon all citizens who have experienced similar challenges to report them directly to the Office of the Municipal Manager. This will enable the municipality to conduct further investigations and ensure that all related matters are addressed comprehensively.
The Alfred Duma Local Municipality takes pride in serving all residents within its jurisdiction. We remain committed to delivering services with dedication, integrity and respect, particularly to our senior citizens and other vulnerable members of the community.
