An Alfred Duma Local Municipality delegation led by His Worship the Mayor Cllr Zama Sibisi accompanied by Deputy Mayor Cllr Sizwe Simelane, Speaker Cllr Bhekinkosi Sithole, MPAC Chairperson Cllr Mike Suddaby, Chief Whip Cllr Sabelo Sithole, Exco Members Cllr TP Dlamini, Cllr A Warrasally, Cllr Sithole Cllr Rajkoomar and officials attended the Sumitomo Rubber (Dunlop Tyres) 50th Anniversary celebration that was held at the Dunlop factory on Monday 2 October 2023. The Dunlop Ladysmith plant is Africa’s largest tyre producer.
The Mayor, Cllr Sibisi warmly congratulated the company on its 50 years existence within Ladysmith and contribution towards the towns’ economy for creating sustainable job opportunities within the community.
Meeting the President of Sumitomo Rubber Industrial South Africa, Satoru Yamamoto, Mayor expressed his gratitude and presented the company with a Mayoral Certificate in recognition of their extraordinary contribution to the economy of this town and in commemoration of their 50 years of existence within the Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
The Mayor and his delegation were also taken on an exciting and informative tour of the factory and exposed to how the tyres are made from the mixing of rubber to the production of tyres.
