
The Alfred Duma Local Municipality successfully hosted the 2024 Spelling Bee Competition, on Wednesday, 4 September 2024. The event took place at the Ladysmith Civic Hall and saw the participation of 38 primary schools from around Ladysmith.

The competition aimed at promoting literacy and enhancing language skills, brought together some of the brightest young minds in the region. Learners competed with enthusiasm, demonstrating exceptional spelling ability, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of language.

The event was a resounding success, with all participating learners showing great determination. The Alfred Duma Local Municipality is committed to the continued promotion of educational initiatives that support the development of local learners and improve literacy rates in the region.

Speaking at the event, Cllr Dlamini commended all the participants for their hard work and dedication. “We are incredibly proud of the talent and passion for learning that has been displayed today. The Spelling Bee is not just a competition but a platform to inspire young learners to strive for excellence in their education. The future of our community lies in the hands of these young people, and today we have seen the promise of a brighter tomorrow.”

The top three winners of the Spelling Bee were awarded certificates, trophies, and educational materials to support their continued academic growth. In addition, each learner from the top three received a printer for their schools.
