The Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Z.J Sibisi on Tuesday 19 September 2023 introduced a contractor for the gravel road to the community of ward 28 in the area of KwaMteyi, the Mayor was joined by ward Cllr Majola, as well as councillors Cllr Sithole, Cllr Ntini and Cllr Zuma.
Speaking to the community ward Cllr Majola, spoke about all the processes of constructing the road and further pleaded with members of community not to conduct unnecessary protests during, before or after the duration of the project.
Introducing the project to community the Mayor, Cllr Zama Sibisi stated that the gravel road will be at a distance of 2.5km and he pleaded with the community to be respective of the processes within the duration of the construction. “As the Alfred Duma Local Municipality, we plead with the community of kwaMteyi to be patient as service delivery projects are being implemented and cannot be an overnight process”, said the Mayor. He further encouraged residents to communicate with ward committees and councillors about their service delivery concerns and needs and must follow proper processes of reporting procedures on concerns and challenges. As the municipality we are committed to dignified service delivery to our community.
The appointed contractor, Messrs Ziyamasha Trading Enterprise Contracting (Pty) Ltd to construct gravel road at an amount of R2, 895130, 98.
On the same day the Speaker, Cllr B.P Sithole also warmly introduced and handed over another 2.4 km gravel road project in the area of KwaMayithanqaze in ward 3. The speaker was with councillors Dlamini and Mngadi as well as officials from the municipality. The project will cost R3 million and its expected to take 4 months to be constructed.
The community welcomed projects and shared joy as their areas are now receiving service after years. Both projects brought most needed opportunities to this community as they will be in line to gain skills labour experience and employment opportunities.
