The Alfred Duma Local Municipality, under the leadership of Mayor Cllr. Zama Sibisi remains committed to local economic development and empowerment of small businesses. On Tuesday, 3 September 2024, Mayor Sibisi officially handed over sewing machines to some local cooperatives as part of the municipality’s initiative to support small business enterprises and assist with job creation within our community.

This initiative was a direct response to the growing need for sustainable economic opportunities within the municipality. By providing these cooperatives with essential equipment, the municipality aims to enhance their capacity to produce quality goods, increase their competitiveness in the market, and ultimately, improve their livelihoods.
During the handover ceremony, Mayor Sibisi emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses, particularly in the textile and manufacturing sectors, which have the potential to contribute significantly to the local economy. The provision of sewing machines is not just about the transfer of assets but also about building a foundation for long-term economic sustainability.

The Alfred Duma Local Municipality remains committed to implementing programs that uplift and empower its residents, particularly women and youth, who make up a significant portion of these cooperatives. This handover is one of many steps the municipality will take to ensure inclusive growth and development.
