The Alfred Duma Local Municipality, led by Cllr Zama Sibisi, is aware that there are people still stuck on the road and would like to extend an urgent call for air emergency transport to intervene and rescue those who have been stranded on the N3 since Friday night due to adverse weather conditions.
At this stage, these individuals are desperately in need of food and water. Currently, NGOs are distributing essential warm meals, but we are unable to reach some of the stranded people. Therefore, we are appealing to all air emergency services, including SAPS, SANDF, and others, to urgently intervene to distribute the essentials whilst waiting to be rescued on the N3 Van Reenen Pass.
The municipality would like to extend its appreciation to all NGOs, including the Al-Imdaad Foundation, Red Cross, Muslim Family Group, and Gift of the Givers, for their invaluable assistance to our community. We also wish to applaud the nearby farmers who have mobilized their graders and joined in the effort to rescue our people alongside the N3TC teams.
Today, the weather seems to be improving, with the possibility of ice melting away, but we cannot simply wait while our people continue to suffer.
