On Thursday, 13 February 2025, as part of promoting a self-help and self-reliance strategy, the Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Councillor, Zama Sibisi visited the Pepworth area in Ward 22, area of iNduna Zikalala, with the aim of handing over LED materials to community members who have established a community garden in their area.
Addressing community, Mayor Sibisi encouraged youth members to establish NGOs, as it is easier for the municipality to assist NGOs, our country is facing a high unemployment rate, and further encouraged them to have one garden per home for survival. He handed over fencing material to them to eliminate the crime rate in our households.
He also informed them that the municipality is providing ploughing materials for NGOs. He encouraged them to fight against gender-based violence. The beneficiaries were very excited to receive assistance from the municipality.
Induna Zikalala thanked the municipality for this initiative in assisting them and promised the municipality to identify another piece of land to establish another community garden, as per the Mayor’s request.
